Position Overview
Equipment Operator is responsible for controlling and maintaining heavy machinery and equipment, ensuring safety and efficiency on construction sites.
Locations- Jackson, MI
- Grand Rapids, MI
- Paw Paw, MI
- Lansing, MI
- Operate various pieces of heavy equipment safely, accurately, and efficiently.
- Perform routine maintenance: clean the job site, conduct inspections, lubricate equipment, and perform general maintenance.
- Follow safety protocols and regulations, attend weekly safety meetings, and obey traffic laws.
- Load and unload materials or equipment as required.
- Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, incidents, defects, accidents, or violations promptly to supervisors.
- Collaborate with crew members, maintain a professional and courteous attitude toward co‑workers, supervisors, and the public.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Arrive on site in proper work attire and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
- Must wear required PPE, steel‑toed footwear, safety glasses, and other safety equipment.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience operating or working around heavy equipment.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- CDL preferred.
- Ability to pass pre‑employment screening and testing.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements, procedures, and PPE policies.
- Work is performed outdoors on a job site in extreme weather conditions and for extended hours.
- Exposure to high levels of noise, dirt, grease, and dust typical of construction projects.
- Regularly work with or near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- May handle substances common to construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, asphalt, and concrete.
- Frequent walking on uneven surfaces, including natural ground and slopes.
- Occasional exposure to vibration.
- Noise level typically quiet but may require protective equipment at some facilities.
- Language skills: read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; communicate effectively with customers and employees.
- Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide; compute rates, ratios, and percentages; interpret graphs.
- Reasoning ability: solve practical problems with limited standardization; interpret varied instructions.
- Vision abilities: color, close, and distance vision, including peripheral, depth, and focus perception.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs without assistance.
- Operate equipment under extreme temperatures and for extended hours.
- Work a flexible schedule based on project needs and demands.
