Position: Support Specialist- Center for Student Success

The CSS Support Specialist is responsible for supporting the Jackson College testing services within the Testing Lab (both in person and virtual). The CSS Support Specialist administers tests in accordance with college guidelines and policies, ensures an environment conducive to testing, maintains test tracking and usage data, produces reports, verifies score reporting, and maintains test security and integrity of all aspects of the Testing Lab.

Most responsibilities are done autonomously and self‑paced. Using a variety of resources, coordinate the provision of texts and materials in alternative formats to students with disabilities. Works with the Center for Student Success, students, vendors and Information Technologies to provide services in a timely manner in accordance with ADA laws. Keep current in resources and trends related to the provision of these services.

Assist in the tracking and referral process to provide Center for Student Success support.

Hours
  • Monday: 9 a.m.–6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 9 a.m.–6:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 10:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m.
  • Thursday: 10:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
  • Some Saturdays required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Proctor course placement tests in person or online to new and returning students for Math and Writing, including Accuplacer ESL. Organize and email confidential student placement test results to appropriate Jackson College Staff.
  • Proctor course‑related and other standardized tests in person or online in the Testing Lab and other designated testing sites, including but not limited to paper/pencil and online tests. Organize, scan, and/or email confidential student test results. Project management for second admit programs such as annual admissions essays for the Dental program, classroom and admissions Kaplan testing, and certifications for the professional trades/industry 4.0 program.

    All project planning, prepping of test environment and proctoring must adhere to appropriate accrediting bodies for each specific program.
    • Monitor the master Testing Lab calendar. Work in conjunction with Testing Lab Proctor to ensure exam coverage.
    • Troubleshoot testing problems and related customer‑service concerns, including computer/program issues. Enforce Testing Lab policies, direct students to other departments of the college in a friendly manner when necessary and always maintain a calm and poised demeanor.
    • Maintain the tracking of all record‑keeping with internal system and external systems including but not limited to Accommodate, Tutor Trac. Participate in meetings and training activities with department personnel and/or college personnel and assist with special projects and activities assigned.
    • Facilitate the testing process by answering student questions and providing test instructions and guidelines. The proctor must obtain credentialed status by all third‑party sites including but not limited to:
      Kaplan, Examsoft, Major Learning, MSSC, PSI, NOCTI, and Accuplacer.
    • Prepare rooms between testing sessions and monitor Testing Lab email.
    • Be prepared to transition from a physical testing environment to a virtual testing environment at a moment’s notice (and vice versa) so as to impact customers minimally and provide exemplary customer service in the spirit of TCS

    • Provide oral proctoring as needed.
    • Serve as back up for accommodations support.
  • Obtain alternative format texts/materials as needed for students with documented disabilities.
  • Meet with students each semester to help connect identified community needs with students to decrease gaps in student success and also serve as a student advocate.
  • Scan materials to electronic formats for audio format and use with text‑to‑speech reader software and edit as needed.
  • Work with publishers to obtain electronic versions of materials.
  • Stay current on federal and state guidelines related to copying of texts into alternative formats.
  • Ensure alternative services are provided in a timely manner.
  • Complete associated documentation of accommodations provided.
  • Assist students in obtaining and using the technology to access their alternative format materials.
