Position: General Office Assistant-E (5-E7) in Central Records-Jackson

Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for receiving offender files from facilities across the states and other areas within the Department and shelving them properly and updating the appropriate database(s). It will also involve identifying files that are needed at the facilities across the state and other areas of the Department, pulling the proper files needed, sending them to the requestor and updating the appropriate database(s).

Additional duties include identifying files that need to be destroyed, pulling those files, sending those files for destruction and updating the appropriate database(s). The staff member will retrieve a pull list each day and identify what, if any files, are needed by the facility staff or the FOA staff.

Qualifications
  • Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
  • General Office Assistant 5:
    No specific type or amount of experience is required.
  • General Office Assistant 6:
    One year of administrative support experience.
  • General Office Assistant E7:
    Two years of administrative support experience, including one year equivalent to the intermediate level. Organisational skills, forward thinking, intermediate level computer skills in Microsoft Office, ability to lift heavy boxes, up to 50 pounds, ability to pull/push carts/bins up to 200 pounds, eyesight corrected to 20/20 and good hand eye coordination.

Candidate for this position may be required to have a criminal history background check.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
