Overview
Gift of Hope is a federally designated not‑for‑profit organ procurement organization coordinating organ and tissue donation and offering compassionate support to families of donors in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana. The Driver position is integral to our mission, providing safe and timely emergency and non‑emergency ground transportation for organ and tissue recovery, transporting staff, supplies, and biologic materials, and ensuring our vehicles are clean and operational.
Compensation is $21.50 per hour plus applicable shift differential. Hours run from midnight to 8:00 AM (0000‑0800), with coverage shared on weekends.

- Provide safe and timely emergency and non‑emergency ground transportation for organ and tissue recovery departments.
- Transport internal and external staff to and from hospitals, airports, and other facilities.
- Transport human organs, blood, and tissue samples.
- Deliver clinical supplies and equipment.
- Work assigned schedule to provide 24‑hour department coverage.
- Keep all Gift of Hope vehicles clean and in proper working condition.
- Complete and document maintenance checks on delivery vehicles; notify supervisor of any issues.
- Interact with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
- Communicate and dispatch external partners as needed.
- Maintain thorough logs to track routes and deliveries.
- Use route navigation apps and knowledge of the area to complete deliveries on time.
- Perform and document safety checks for each vehicle.
- Assist with property‑related duties, such as building security and safety tours, monitoring facility and equipment alarms, light maintenance, restocking supplies, and light landscaping or snow removal.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must be at least 25 years of age.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with others.
- Ability to learn and perform all transportation, property, and security related duties.
- Ability to learn and utilize computer applications necessary for job performance.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to drive Gift of Hope vehicles.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and walk.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Driving Gift of Hope vehicles for 7–8 hours per trip within the service area (northwestern Illinois and Lake County, Indiana).
- Normal office environment.
- Work weekends and other hours outside regular office hours.
- Some exposure to adverse weather and road conditions.
- Carry a personal cell phone to be accessible outside regular business hours.
- Ability to respond to pages within 10 minutes when working on call.
