** Position Focus:
** Under the direction of the Aquatics & Fitness Supervisor, the Fitness Instructor will be responsible for leading safe, effective, fun and upbeat group exercise classes that are easy to follow, challenge participants and meet class requirements and members’ needs. Regulations and safety guidelines established by organizations such as A.C.S.M, ACE, and A.F.A.A. must be adhered to when conducting group exercise classes
* Good knowledge of emergency protocols and ability to thrive during high stress and emergency situations and awareness of safety protocols, equipment, and techniques.
* First Aid, CPR and AED certification is required or training provided by park district.
* Ability to work under the supervision of the Aquatic & Fitness Supervisor to carry out their directives.
* Ability to communicate, present ideas and make recommendations orally, in writing and by telephone in a clear, concise manner.
* Capacity to plan, organize, prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
* Have the capacity to demonstrate and teach correct stretching techniques, fitness moves and aerobic techniques to participants.
* Ability to demonstrate tact and strong interpersonal skills in maintaining positive, effective working relationships with all employees throughout the Park District and Fitness patrons.
* Ability to foster and work in a team atmosphere promoting positive and collaborative relationships.
* Ability to resolve conflicts with the Aquatic & Facility Supervisor, peers, subordinates, and coworkers in a productive, professional manner.
* Ability to work in the vicinity of the public and park patrons in public areas.
* Capacity to be self-motivated and complex assigned work using effective time management and organizational skills.
* Ability to proactively trouble shoot, problem solve and make sound judgments in keeping with the mission of the Park District.
* Capacity to maintain self-control and composure in difficult and high stress situations.
* Ability to enforce waterpark facility safety rules, policies and regulations.
* Must have the ability to follow directions, read, communicate orally and write in English, present ideas and make recommendations in a clear concise manner.
* Must effectively and courteously respond to inquiries and requests received from the public.
* Capacity to provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers.
* Must possess strength, stamina and mobility to perform heavy physical work.
* Instructor will repeatedly stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, finger, grasp, feel, sit, lift, carry, push and pull materials and equipment and perform exercise moves, while wearing an appropriate uniform with protective equipment.
* Ability to lift with assistance light weights of 25 lbs pounds in fitness equipment and furniture.
* Work is primarily performed in air conditioned rooms in cold temperatures, varying humidity.
* Vision is required to read printed materials, computer screens, and to scan the waterpark bodies of water.
* Hearing and speech is required to communicate in person, over a telephone or radio.
* The use of the following personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, based on the assigned job duties:
