Safety Engineer II
Mortenson is a top builder, developer, and EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) focused on sports, renewable energy, data centers and healthcare projects. We are seeking a passionate Safety Engineer II who can interact with staff at all levels, remain flexible, resourceful, proactive and efficient in an ever‑changing environment. The Safety Engineer will implement Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety program at project sites and ensure a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors and visitors.
Responsibilities- Implement and administer safety programs at each work site for team members.
- Assist the project management team in developing and executing site‑specific safety programs and activities.
- Attend, coordinate and conduct safety orientation and training programs at the project level.
- Document and track all safety violations and unsafe conditions.
- Conduct work area safety audits.
- Collect and analyze leading and trailing indicator data and trend analyses.
- Assist with major incident analysis.
- Record, monitor and analyze safety, injury and hazard statistics.
- Coordinate OSHA reporting and posting requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health or a related field, OR
- High school diploma, STS/CHST certification, OSHA 30‑hour training and a minimum of seven years of continuous construction experience leading crews and planning work—including at least five years managing safety programs at the crew or project level—and a minimum of one year of related experience.
- Detail‑oriented with the ability to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety‑related software programs.
- Positive and professional attitude with strong customer‑service skills.
- Ability to interpret and communicate company policies to team members and outside parties.
- Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem‑solving and leadership skills.
- Effective public speaking and presentation skills.
- Current driver’s license.

Base pay range: $81,800 – $110,400. Actual range may be higher for Denver, CO & Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA & Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%. Base pay is positioned within the range based on knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
