Calibration Technician Purpose of the Role
The Calibration Technician plays a vital role in delivering high-quality calibration and instrumentation support within a regulated, mission-critical environment.
Initially, the role will focus on working closely with the principal contractor to develop documentation and support the client’s calibration and instrumentation requirements. Once the site is fully operational, the position transitions into a steady-state role, responsible for:
- Day-to-day service delivery
- Maintenance of critical test equipment
- Coordination of third‑party calibration services
- Ensuring system accuracy, availability, and regulatory compliance
- Deliver comprehensive calibration services for control and instrumentation systems across the site
- Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and client‑requested calibration activities
- Diagnose, rectify, and plan remedial works for faults on field instrumentation
- Develop, implement, and maintain site calibration procedures and maintenance strategies
- Define, manage, and review equipment tolerances for plant and process systems
- Identify test equipment requirements and suitable work spaces for calibration activities
- Maximise plant and user equipment availability through effective planned maintenance
- Provide technical expertise to support projects, commissioning, and system handover activities
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and A3 investigations, producing structured, actionable reports
- Initiate and receive Permits to Work in accordance with site procedures and safety requirements
- Identify spare parts requirements, raise purchase requests, and manage stock levels
- Coordinate dispatch and return of test equipment to third‑party calibration suppliers according to CMMS schedules
- Ensure all work orders are completed within contractual performance metrics and agreed timescales
- Work closely with the Systems Manager and site management team to support operational objectives
- Provide cross‑team and cross‑account technical support when required

- Good general education with strong written and spoken English
- Basic mathematical competency
- Completed formal apprenticeship in Calibration and Instrumentation
- HNC/HND (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
- cGxP training (current Good Practice standards within regulated environments)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in calibration and maintenance within a regulated industry (e.g., pharmaceutical, food processing, laboratory environments)
- Proven experience developing, writing, and maintaining calibration procedures
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High IT literacy, including experience with CMMS platforms
- Structured, methodical approach to fault‑finding and technical documentation
- Customer‑focused with a commitment to high standards of service delivery
- Calm under pressure, able to make sound decisions in demanding situations
- Physically fit and capable of using vertical access equipment
- Comfortable working at height, including roof access when required
- Team‑oriented, collaborative, and professional in approach
