Overview

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust – Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine.

There is an excellent opportunity for an Emergency Medicine doctor to advance their career as a Senior Clinical Fellow (ST4+) with the aim of obtaining a postgraduate qualification. Post-holders will be based at West Middlesex University Emergency Department. This is suitable as an out of programme post; for information on seeking prospective GMC approval for training, please refer to the GMC website and your local training standards committee.

Main

duties of the job

The main service commitments of Senior Clinical Fellows will be, under the supervision of the Consultants, to supervise the FY2s, and to perform hands-on work alongside other middle grades. The department has initiated new patterns of working to achieve current targets, including roles undertaken by middle grade doctors such as lead middle grade, resus lead, and the rapid assessment team.

The middle grade is expected to run the Emergency Department. Consultants are committed to teaching and postgraduate training and will ensure opportunities for professional development. The appointee is expected to already have or obtain during the appointment certificates in ATLS and ALS. Most of the Consultants are instructors on these courses.

Job responsibilities

The rota provides 24-hour cover to the Emergency Department with 1:3 weekends. The shift pattern is new deal compliant with a 1A banding. Pay banding may change to comply with new working practices or regulations relating to the reduction of Junior Doctors Hours. This job is for Senior Clinical Fellows based at Chelsea and Westminster Emergency Department (0.6 WTE) with remaining time spent on developing simulation, teaching and medical educational skills.

The post holder will be expected mainly to provide out-of-hours clinical work in the Emergency Department.

Person Specification Education and Qualifications
  • MBChB or equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Provider status in at least one of ALS/ATLS/PALS
  • MCEM
  • Instructor in at least one of ALS/ATLS/APLS/PALS
Experience
  • Experience in delivering and organising teaching
  • Formal teaching courses / qualifications
Skills and knowledge
  • Demonstrable A&E and previous NHS experience
  • Understanding of Clinical Audit
  • Previous work at Middle Grade level in ED
  • Peer review medical publications
