We are seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer based in our Irwindale, CA office to lead and manage multiple infrastructure and building projects, including structural steel analysis, design, and construction for heavy industries such as sand and gravel processing plants, plant upgrades, and site improvements. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, proven project management abilities, and the skills to coordinate multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders.

This role involves hands-on engineering and oversight from concept through construction, maintaining effective communication with plant operators, ensuring permit compliance, and building strong relationships with local agencies.

What You'll Do:

Champion Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards. Inspect plant systems to ensure that they are safe for operating personnel.

Manage Standards. Recommend and develop division-wide design standards, as well as Construction Standards for the division.

Provide Design Services. Develop structural general arrangement drawings, including both steel and concrete requirements. Develop mechanical general arrangement drawings, including process flow diagrams. Provide all required design services to meet project demands. Ensure all designs comply fully with the appropriate design codes and all applicable local codes.

Coordinate Engineering Services. Coordinate and review engineering services provided by outside parties and internal designers. Consult with the division's construction services personnel on appropriate construction methods for projects.

Assist with Construction Projects. Assist in securing necessary construction permits. Recommend necessary equipment and materials for each project. Review finished work to ensure compliance with project specifications.

Manage Projects. Develop cost estimates, equipment specifications, and proposals. Schedule work to meet completion dates and technical specifications. Monitor work in progress to ensure that quality and engineering standards are met. Review changes to designs or schedules as necessary. Monitor and forecast project cost.

Collaborate. Work closely with Procurement and Vendors to expedite deliveries when items are needed for construction. Assist in the contractor selection process. Review and approve work completed by outside contractors as needed.

Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Skills You'll Need:

Education. Degree in Engineering required. BS Civil Engineer or BS Structural Engineer preferred.

Experience. Minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience, including heavy industrial projects

License. A PE or EIT license is preferred.

Functional Knowledge. Must have a thorough knowledge of design specifications, building codes, and the equipment utilized within the company's plants. Proficiency in engineering software (spreadsheets, word processing, AutoCAD, structural analysis/design tools).

Communication Skills. Must have strong written and oral communication skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform all phases of structural engineering tasks, including investigation, inspection, modeling, analysis, and design of steel and concrete structures.
  • Experience in preparing building permits and strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and permitting.
  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling, and team coordination.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
