Position: Data Entry Clerk (Finance Department)

Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable and detail‑oriented Data Entry Clerk to support our Finance Department. This entry‑level accounting support role is responsible for accurate data entry, invoice processing, and maintaining organized financial records.

This position is ideal for someone looking to gain experience in nonprofit accounting while contributing to a mission‑driven organization. The role requires strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to manage routine financial documentation with accuracy.

This is an on-site position.

Key Responsibilities Data Entry & Invoice Processing
  • Enter financial data into accounting systems accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Input vendor invoices and verify supporting documentation.
  • Assist with processing accounts payable documentation.
  • Review entries for completeness and accuracy before submission.
Filing & Documentation Management
  • Maintain organized physical and digital filing systems.
  • File invoices, receipts, reimbursement documentation, and financial records.
  • Assist with retrieving documentation for audits or grant monitoring requests.
  • Ensure all financial documentation is properly labeled and stored.
Administrative Support to the Finance Team
  • Assist the Staff Accountant and Accounting Manager with routine accounting tasks.
  • Support the preparation of financial packets and reports.
  • Perform basic clerical duties such as scanning, copying, and organizing records.
  • Help maintain the confidentiality of financial and personnel information.
Qualifications Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some coursework in accounting, finance, or business is preferred.
  • Prior data entry or clerical experience preferred.
  • Experience in an office or nonprofit setting is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic understanding of accounting terminology preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Comfortable working with databases and accounting software.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions carefully.
Work Environment

This is an on-site position based in Newark, NJ. The role requires consistent in‑person support of the Finance Department.

Compensation

Hourly rate up to $22 per hour, based on experience.
