Position SummaryThe Diesel Technician performs service and repairs on trucking and rail transportation equipment at customer sites or in the company’s shop, to ensure that equipment runs according to manufacturer specifications. This role adheres to Briggs Industrial Solutions standards and company direction.
Responsibilities- Diagnose and repair equipment, including diesel engines, electric motors, transmissions, drive trains, hydraulic, brake, steering, electrical, lifting, and related systems.
- Perform work safely and efficiently, complying with applicable performance, maintenance and safety regulations.
- Block, chock and secure equipment; disassemble as needed to facilitate major component removal and repair.
- Perform routine and advanced maintenance to keep equipment running per manufacturer specifications.
- Conduct advanced diagnostic troubleshooting and failure analysis on components and systems.
- Inspect equipment to identify potential problems and safety concerns.
- Perform basic welding as necessary.
- Document maintenance and repair work in a timely manner.
- Complete required technical training and certifications as assigned.
- Maintain parts and supplies needed for job completion.
- Serve as a technical resource and provide support for team members; conduct skill evaluations.
- Maintain company vehicle cleanliness and ensure it is in safe operating condition; complete vehicle checklists as required.
- Maintain safety practices and comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations (DOT/OSHA).
- Participate in safety meetings and promote a Safety First culture.
- Support leadership in recruiting efforts to onboard top talent.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Excellent customer service and verbal/written communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of equipment and operations relevant to the branch.
- Ability to read codes, search instructions, and complete documentation using a computer.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, technical knowledge, and problem-solving skills.
- Desire to learn new technology, advanced diagnostics and repair procedures.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Mechanical or trade school certificate preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience in medium to heavy-duty vehicle repairs (PMs, diagnostics, brake systems, fuel systems, engine/powertrain components, aftertreatments, transmissions, tires).
- Ability to read precision instruments (e.g., micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges).
- Welding and/or fabrication skills preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Standing, walking, lifting, twisting and bending regularly.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Must furnish own tools.
- availability to work 24/7 on-call as needed.
- 100% travel to customer sites / working in a shop environment.
