POSITION OVERVIEWThe Apparel Merchandising Manager is responsible for leading apparel assortment planning, pricing, inventory management, and merchandising strategies to drive sales and profitability. As a secondary focus, the role oversees sports-related and licensed apparel, ensuring alignment with brand standards, licensing requirements, and fan expectations. This role requires a creative eye and blends data-driven decision making with a strong understanding of athletes, consumers, and performance apparel trends.
Marketplace Strategy & Planning: Own long-range and pre-season planning for apparel, setting marketplace strategy and identifying white space opportunities. Define segmentation across wholesale and DTC channels and align with counterparts across other adjacent categories.
Assortment Development: Build consumer-centric assortments and develop seasonal strategy, line architecture, and pricing within Division guidelines. Direct the design and assortment vision, execution and integrity of the Sports product offerings. Translate design vision into product offers that are appropriate for retail partners.
In-Season Management
:
Monitor marketplace execution and manage capacity. Partner with Marketing and Planning to deliver financial targets and optimize in-season performance.
Consumer Insights: Continuously track consumer demand trends and leverage insights to shape planning and assortment decisions.
Partnership with Leaders: Partners closely with Design, Product Development, Sales, and Operations to deliver compelling assortments that meet financial targets and elevate the brand.
QUALIFICATIONS- 5+ years of merchandising, product management, or related field, sports apparel and accessories required
- Proficient in merchandising and planning tools; strong presentation and communication skills
- Manage and develop employees through clear goal setting, ongoing feedback and performance driven coaching.
- Strong analytical skills with experience using sales and inventory data
- Proven ability to manage multiple seasons and timelines simultaneously
- Passion for sports and an understanding of fan-driven retail behavior
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Must be a self-starter and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
- Experience working directly with sports leagues or licensing partners (e.g., NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAA)
- Experience in omnichannel or e-commerce merchandising
- Familiarity with PLM, ERP, or retail planning tools
- Develop and execute apparel merchandising strategies aligned with business objectives
- Plan seasonal apparel assortments across categories, fits, and price points
- Analyze sales, margin, and inventory data to optimize performance
- Manage pricing architecture, promotions, and markdown strategies
- Forecast demand and manage inventory flow to reduce stock risk
- Partner with design, buying, sourcing, and supply chain teams
- Ensure strong visual merchandising and product storytelling for apparel lines
- Manage sports-related and licensed apparel assortments (teams, leagues, athletes)
- Ensure compliance with licensing agreements, brand guidelines, and royalty structures
- Coordinate with licensors and internal teams on product approvals and timelines
- Plan assortments around sports seasons, tournaments, and key events
- Collaborate with marketing and partnerships teams on sports-related launches
- Monitor sports fashion trends and fan-driven demand
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Business, Marketing, or a related field
