Position: Supervisor, Critical Operations (2pm-10pm)

Overview

Supervisor, Critical Operations (2pm-10pm) at QTS Data Centers. The Supervisor is responsible for the supervision, tactical execution, installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, FLS, plumbing/piping equipment, machinery, and controls located in and around the data center. Responsible for coordinating and integrating electrical, mechanical, and plumbing maintenance, maintenance contracting for service to critical equipment, planning for capital equipment replacement, and new construction with direct responsibility for deploying the Critical Operations Team.

Assist customers on the Data Center floor with requests, assist with customer installs, and other customer-related projects. This role includes team leadership responsibilities such as development, on-the-job training, coaching, mentoring, and staffing.

This role requires work hours to support a 7x24x365 data center environment and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establish, implement, and maintain facility policies, procedures, and organizational structure within management and corporate policy while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop emergency response planning, response management, and reporting for electrical, mechanical, related controls, and plumbing systems.
  • Lead and perform preventive maintenance on all equipment including refrigeration, heat exchangers, HVAC, electrical, emergency backup systems, and hot water systems.
  • Oversee work orders for preventive and corrective maintenance on critical systems and building structure; order and budget parts and supervise work to complete maintenance.
  • Facilitate data center space and cable plant design, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Ensure incidents and work orders are completed, updated, and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Lead the response to emergency situations and customer concerns.
  • Review and provide inputs for operating budget preparation and implementation.
  • Coordinate with SMEs to resolve operational problems, develop and approve procedures, and approve major estimates.
  • Comply with policies for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Supervise the team to maintain a clean, organized, and safe workplace.
  • Provide updates and reporting to the Critical Operations Manager and Site Director; stand in as needed.
  • Supervise, train, develop, mentor, and coach Critical Operations Technicians; manage direct reports and set performance goals.
  • Ensure all customer requests are completed and resolved in a timely manner.
Qualifications
  • Basic Qualifications: Four or more years of workplace or relevant industry experience. Previous direct or indirect people leadership experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Six or more years of workplace or relevant industry experience. Previous people leadership experience in a data center environment.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent people skills; exceptional customer service; ability to analyze system operations, diagnose issues, and take corrective action; ability to manage complex situations during off-management hours; strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team; capability to acquire and apply knowledge within guidelines; physical ability to type, stand, walk, push, pull, bend, reach, and lift;

    lifting requirements may range from 10 to 50 lbs, with heavier lifts assisted by others or lifting aids.
