About the RoleThe Litigation, Investigations & Regulatory (LIR) team plays a critical role in enabling McKesson to advance enterprise strategy, navigate complexity and protect the organization’s legal and reputational interests. As Lead Counsel you will provide strategic, business‑aligned legal guidance on complex litigation, pre‑litigation and investigations across multiple business units. This role is ideal for an experienced litigator who thrives in a fast‑paced environment with significant autonomy and senior‑level visibility.
Key Responsibilities- Litigation & Disputes – Manage a portfolio of complex commercial litigation matters, including class actions, government inquiries and commercial disputes; develop and execute litigation strategy; oversee outside counsel (selection, budget, work‑product review and strategic guidance); advise business units on litigation risk, exposure and resolution options; ensure alignment with enterprise priorities.
- Investigations – Support government investigations, subpoenas, CIDs and regulatory inquiries, collaborating with cross‑functional teams.
- Strategic Advisory – Serve as a trusted business partner to senior leaders across multiple units; evaluate and communicate legal risk in a clear, practical manner; contribute to strategic initiatives within LIR and the broader GCO, including process improvements, knowledge sharing and operational enhancements.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- 8+ years of litigation experience at a law firm or in‑house department, with meaningful responsibility for complex matters.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to deliver concise, business‑oriented advice.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high‑stakes matters simultaneously.
- Experience working with or managing outside counsel.
- Exceptional judgment, integrity and discretion.
- Prior experience within the healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences or technology sectors.
- Experience handling government investigations, subpoenas or regulatory matters involving the DOJ, DEA, FDA or other agencies.
- Familiarity with enterprise litigation operations, including eDiscovery, document preservation and subpoena response processes.
- Ability to develop effective relationships across highly matrixed organizations.
- Strong digital fluency and judgment in using approved technology and AI‑enabled tools to support litigation matters, improve efficiency and manage risk.
- Critically evaluates AI‑assisted outputs, exercises appropriate oversight and remains accountable for all legal work product.
- Adopts a continuous‑improvement mindset in leveraging digital tools consistent with professional and ethical obligations.
