Senior Claims Specialist (Liability) – Hybrid | Irving TX
Position Summary
This position provides key support in the handling of claims across multiple lines of coverage, with a primary focus on Liability including Commercial Auto, Commercial Property, and General Liability
. The role is responsible for assessing coverage, liability, legal, and damage issues
, and for investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and resolving assigned claims in a timely manner in accordance with internal guidelines and applicable regulatory requirements. A high level of customer service is expected for both internal and external business partners. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule and requires business travel to office locations and customer sites.
Review, analyze, and interpret policy conditions, exclusions, and endorsements to resolve coverage and liability issues for assigned claims
Prepare reservation of rights letters, nonwaiver agreements, and coverage disclaimers to address claim coverage issues
Review and evaluate claim reserves to ensure reserves accurately reflect potential exposure
Investigate claims to evaluate coverage and legal issues, including meeting with insureds and witnesses, obtaining statements, and securing records and other evidentiary materials
Provide proper documentation and reporting of investigation and claims handling activities
Negotiate, including through mediation, arbitration, and other court-supervised settlement efforts; settle and resolve claims with claimants, insureds, and attorneys; prepare appropriate resolution documents
Maintain working knowledge of regulatory and jurisdictional requirements
Provide direction to and manage defense counsel, independent adjusters, and other third parties retained for specific claims
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the following areas:
Coverage review: interpreting policies, agreements, and disclaimers
Claims investigation: statements, authorizations, retention of qualified experts and counsel
Claims administration: reporting, reserve review, compliance knowledge of laws and procedures
Claims settlement: disclaimer letters, releases, proof of loss statements; participation in legal proceedings when needed
Additional requirements:
Knowledge of coverage concepts, negligence principles, investigation methods, and negotiation techniques
Ability to obtain and maintain state adjusting licenses as needed
Service-oriented with the ability to deliver prompt, efficient, and effective claims and customer service
Strong written and verbal communication skills with customers, claimants, counsel, and members of the public
Ability to manage and organize multiple priorities simultaneously
Excellent judgment, negotiation, and decision-making skills
Ability to travel between off-site locations and occasionally overnight as needed
Experience handling liability claims in one or more of the following states:
IA, KS, NE, ND, MN, or WI
