Job Summary

The Network & IoT Field Engineer is a hybrid technical role combining network engineering, IoT systems expertise, and customer-facing professional services
. This position supports the design, installation, and validation of network and IoT infrastructure for our enterprise clients. You will act as the on-site technical resource—conducting discovery, assessing environments, recommending hardware/IoT equipment, and performing hands‑on deployments—helping reduce travel and operational load for senior engineering leadership.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in Windows and Linux administration, networking, IoT technologies, and field implementation
, with the ability to interface with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. This role helps ensure that our SaaS IoT solutions, devices, and supporting network components are installed, configured, and maintained to the highest standards.

Primary

Duties & Responsibilities Network, Systems, and IoT Deployment
  • Perform on‑site assessments of customer environments to recommend network/IoT devices, wireless solutions, sensors, gateways, and supporting equipment.
  • Deploy, configure, and troubleshoot IoT devices, edge gateways, RFID/BLE equipment, sensors, routers, and switches.
  • Install, configure, and support workstation software, hardware, printers, phones, and other IT infrastructure.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux‑based systems and IoT device OS variants.
Infrastructure Engineering & Support
  • Execute network and systems design, documentation, implementation, testing, and ongoing administration.
  • Maintain network servers and associated hardware, software, services, and configurations.
  • Configure VLANs, VPNs, firewalls, and routing/switching to support IoT environments.
  • Monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot network performance, security, and stability issues.
  • Implement system, firmware, and security upgrades for Windows, Linux, and IoT devices.
Professional Services & Customer Engagement
  • Serve as the primary in‑person technical representative for IoT deployment projects and site audits.
  • Interface directly with customer IT departments, facilities teams, and third‑party vendors—technical and non‑technical.
  • Provide hands‑on configuration and validation of equipment according to customer requirements.
  • Train users, customer staff, and internal teams on new hardware, software, and IoT systems.
  • Document configurations, network layouts, installation notes, and technical support procedures.
Operational Excellence
  • Create and maintain network user accounts, permissions, and security profiles.
  • Develop and update technical documentation for systems, networks, IoT devices, and deployments.
  • Recommend improvements and optimizations to systems, security posture, and IoT infrastructure.
Required Skills, Abilities, & Education
  • 2+ years in network administration, IT support, or field engineering role.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and enterprise computing infrastructure.
  • Proven capability with network engineering, diagnostics, and performance analysis.
  • Experience with Linux system administration and IoT/embedded operating systems.
  • Experience managing cloud environments such as AWS, Oracle Cloud, or Microsoft 365.
  • Strong customer‑facing communication skills for training, deployments, and support.
  • Experience with server management, monitoring tools, and network security practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, IT, or equivalent technical field.
  • Must be able to travel.
Nice‑to‑Have Skills/Abilities
  • Experience with RFID, BLE, UWB, GPS trackers, gateways, and IoT communication protocols (MQTT, CoAP, LoRaWAN, etc.).
  • Experience performing site surveys for Wi‑Fi, BLE, or cellular coverage.
  • Familiarity with enterprise firewalls (Fortinet, Sonic Wall, Palo Alto, Cisco).
  • Scripting/automation experience (Python, Bash, Power Shell).
  • Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, Network+, Security+, CISSP.
  • Experience with containerization (Docker), virtualization (VMware/Hyper‑V), and edge computing.
  • Experience working in logistics, supply chain, warehousing, manufacturing, or asset‑tracking environments.
