Overview

Primary
Purpose:
This position is accountable for performing quality Magnetic Resonive Imaging through the application of advanced technical knowledge while adhering to the standards set by Parkland Health and appropriate regulatory agencies.
Shift
Hours:
Friday 07:00 to 19:30;
Sunday 19:00 to 07:30;
Monday 19:00 to 07:30. Night time shift differentials will apply.
Minimum Education:
Graduate of an accredited Radiology and/or MRI Program.
- Must have 6 months clinical experience in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
- If not currently licensed with ARRT with a certification in MRI (MR), you must have taken courses in MRI: physics, cross sectional anatomy, and clinical experience.
- Must have current ARRT with certification in MRI (MR) within 6 months of hire.
- If not ARRT (MR) certified, must possess American Registry of MRI Technologists (ARMRIT) upon hire and obtain ARRT(MR) within 6 months of hire.
- Must have a current Healthcare Provider (BLS Level) CPR card prior to hire and/or placement in job from one of the following:
American Heart Association;
American Red Cross Rescuer;
Military Training Network. - Must be able to complete 6-month on-the-job training for those obtaining ARRT-MRI certification.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of MRI equipment, Anatomy and Physics, computer skills in word processing and database software, oral and written communication skills, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills, and patient-centered/patient-valued behaviors.
- Perform computerized MRI procedures on assigned patients to ensure scanning needs are met, including neuro, body and musculoskeletal exams. Review physician orders and MRI protocol applicability. Screen patients for MRI safety and contraindications. If modification of a MRI protocol is necessary, consult with radiologist to determine appropriate sequences and parameters. Document changes in the electronic health record and ensure resources are scheduled.
- Interview patient, conduct screening and obtain medical history pertaining to procedures. Explain procedure and instruct patient on requirements. Answer questions related to procedures and IV contrast. Assist the physician as needed. Ensure images and records are properly identified and labeled.
- Utilize technical knowledge to perform procedures accurately and in a timely manner. Complete exam charges and image documentation. Administer contrast material in correct dosage and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Perform post-processing on MRI systems and remote workstations (e.g., 3-D rendering, calculation of T1 and T2 values). Maintain patient confidentiality and protect workstations.
- Respond to inquiries, calls, emails timely. Communicate shift handoff and equitable distribution of workload.
- Participate in departmental Performance Improvement Programs and collaborate with interdisciplinary team. Prioritize exams to ensure smooth workflow and address urgent requests.
- Maintain equipment including running quality assurance checks and reporting maintenance needs. Maintain QA records. Maintain passwords to computer systems.
- Commit to professional growth by attending seminars, keeping ARRT/ARMRIT certification, and applying knowledge to practice.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines affecting the MRI area and develop internal controls to ensure compliance.
