JOB TITLE: Library and Information Specialist
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Campus Principal & Director of Digital and Learning Resources
PAY GRADE: In Accordance with Board Board-approved Salary Schedule (195 days)

PRIMARY
PURPOSE:
Plan and deliver standards-aligned library instruction as part of the campus specials rotation team, developing students’ information literacy, research, inquiry, reading engagement, digital citizenship, and STEM fluency. Foster a positive, literacy-rich learning environment that supports curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and lifelong learning.
Minimum
Education/Certification:
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with two years of classroom teaching experience from a public or private accredited school
- Master’s degree in a directly related field from a recognized, accredited college or university; MLS preferred AND Valid Texas School Librarian Certificate
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of library and information science
- Instructional technology and STEM proficiency
Minimum Experience:
- At least two (2) years of exceptional performance as a classroom teacher
- Leadership experience (preferred)
- Proven instructional skills in working with students, staff, and the school community
- Effectively plan and administer library programs to meet district goals.
- Teach students how to locate, evaluate, and use library print and premium digital resources for a variety of purposes.
- Maintain and apply knowledge of best practices in school libraries, research trends, digital literacy, and digital citizenship.
- Promote a culture of literacy.
- Facilitate the acquisition of information literacy and STEM skills by implementing lessons that enhance grade‑level curriculum.
- Implement pedagogical methods and strategies to support student learning.
- With support from Library Services, select print resources that adhere to board policy and district selection criteria.
- Regularly attend director‑led librarian PLC meetings and other district training as required.
- Provide safe, attractive, and user‑friendly environments that promote a positive learning climate.
- Demonstrate a positive relationship with students, teachers, and the school communities.
- Serve as an innovative problem‑solver and model of lifelong learning for campuses served.
- Model standards of conduct, monitor student behavior, and respond to student misbehavior appropriately.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics and all district policies.
- Comply with and support all district and local campus routines, policies, and regulations.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, the State Board of Education, and the local board in the area of library services, including but not limited to copyright and censorship.

WORKING CONDITIONSMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem‑solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision‑making. Occasional in‑district travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
