Irving Public Library is seeking an innovative, creative, and engaging customer‑service‑oriented professional part‑time librarian to assist with children’s programming. Duties include developing a full range of library services, programs, and activities for children, families, and caregivers; and overseeing the work of assigned staff. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, organized, and enjoy working with children and families; and capable of developing and conducting original, vibrant programming that encourages reading, creative thinking, and promotes the use of the library and its materials.
The person hired will work as part of the Outreach Team and assist in library locations as needed, staffing the information and circulation desks. Irving Public Library’s mission is to provide access to information for lifelong learning and promote the enjoyment of reading. With more than one million items checked out annually, the multi‑branch Irving Public Library system serves a community of more than 237,000 residents and is nationally known for its diverse programming.
- Develop and implement a full range of library services, programs, and activities for children, families, and caregivers.
- Oversee the work of assigned staff and support the Outreach Team as needed.
- Staff information and circulation desks at Irving Public Library locations.
- Plan and conduct original, vibrant programming that encourages reading, creative thinking, and the use of library materials.
- Schedule and work weekend and evening hours as required.
- Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited program or equivalent professional library experience.
- One year of professional library or related experience.
- Strong knowledge and appreciation of children’s literature.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are beneficial.
- Strong desire and experience working with children.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
