Job Description
JOB TITLE: Special Education Clerk
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt
REPORTS TO: Principal
PAY GRADE: Paraprofessional 035 (187 Days)
DEPARTMENT: Assigned School
DATE REVISED: June 2009
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assist the educational diagnostician and speech/language pathologist with the management of special education records. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of an educational diagnostician or speech/language pathologist.
Qualifications
Minimum Education/Certification:
- Educational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate
- High School Diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Proficient in computer use for word processing, email, and spreadsheets.
- Ability to work well with children with disabilities.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Minimum Experience
- Experience working with children/students, parents, or persons with disabilities.
- Experience in a clerical position.
Major Responsibilities And Duties
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Keep accurate records of students with disabilities and furnish to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
- Assist diagnostician and/or SLP in maintaining, copying, transferring confidential folders as required.
- Perform other duties that enhance the safety, security, and instructional needs of the campus as requested.
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and legal/local board policies.
- Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Work with special education staff to schedule ARD meetings.
- Mail information to parents in a timely manner.
- Distribute information to school staff.
- Maintain a roster of students who receive special education services.
- Enter and maintain information into the special education data management system as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None.
Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
