Position Summary
As a Pipefitter Superintendent for CEC, you will be responsible for scheduling, monitoring, and controlling the day-to-day execution of the work, progress, and performance of a project. Administration and control of all aspects of the site-specific safety and compliance objectives will be key for your role as well. This position works under indirect supervision. Supervising and coordinating activities of workers engaged in welding and cutting of products and structures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Responsible for supervising work performed on HVAC systems ranging in difficulty from small basic industrial / commercial installations to large complex projects involving multiple piping systems
- Assist in administrating the company safety program and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment
- Supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in installing and maintaining HVAC piping systems
- Verify dimensions of pipes, fittings, and valves, using rulers, and levels
- Plan, coordinate, and/or supervise construction activities of craft employees.
- Review scope documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Studies project execution and tracks documents including the project execution plan, project safety plan, QA/QC, schedule, man loading projections, equipment rental schedule, installed quantity and labor tracking plan, and subcontracting strategy.
- Participate in project kick‑off and team building activities.
- Ensure project is constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule.
- Interface with job site construction Superintendent, GC, and Owner to ensure all company, client, and project policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Interface with all project team members as required in the establishment of project schedules and resolving schedule problems.
- Provide leadership and management for crafts, ensuring lay out work for crews.
- Ensure that materials, drawings, manpower, specifications, tools, consumables, and equipment are available when needed.
- Provide prioritized work activity instructions to all crews and monitor their progress.
- Assist with the implementation/interpretation of safety programs.
- Maintain strict adherence to the policies set forth in the company policy.
- Mentor craft personnel for professional development.
- Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
- Work within CECs company policies and safety standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.
- Minimum 8 years of verifiable experience in the pipe fitting trade and a minimum of 3 years of verifiable supervisory experience
- High School Graduate, GED, or equivalent.
- Must have a current Drivers License and reliable transportation.
- Must meet attendance standards and comply with late/absence notification procedures.
- Must be able to pass drug and background check.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong believer in Safety.
- Thorough knowledge of piping blueprints, specifications, and codes.
- Thorough knowledge of other major craft blueprints.
- Thorough knowledge of all piping systems; chilled water, heating water, steam, condenser water, or any other process piping application.
- Thorough knowledge of all pipe joining methods, welded, threaded, grooved, glued, or any other process piping joining method.
- Thorough knowledge of all piping types, from carbon steel, stainless steel, PVC, fiberglass, or any other piping type.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to successfully interact with employees and clients on a professional level.
- The ability to supervise multiple foremen.
- The ability to schedule projects and meet deadlines.
- Familiar with construction methods, techniques, and labor requirements and how they apply to construction projects.
- Ability to effectively interact with project team members, clients, subcontractors, and craft employees.
- Possess excellent leadership skills and have the ability to effectively manage craft employees.
- Hands‑on job foreman experience.
- Read, write, and communicate using English language sufficient to perform job functions.
May work inside or outside. Possible exposure to hot and cold temperatures, in all-weather elements such as rain, heat, cold and snow. This position also requires work at extreme heights, in areas that are under construction, or in restricted areas such as a switch gear room, manhole, utility tunnel, crawl space, or attic, in confined spaces, and on slippery or uneven surfaces;
works on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, in ditches and excavations; works in and around single and multi‑story buildings with all exposures typical of a heavy construction site, including portable sanitary facilities.
