Position: Electrical Project Engineer Intern (32270)

Position Summary

As a CEC Electrical Project Engineer Intern, you will participate in a structured multi-summer internship program designed to develop future finance and operations leaders. This rotational program provides hands‑on experience across key business functions including Special Projects, Financial Planning & Analysis, and Accounting or Estimating. During your first summer, you will work directly with the Special Projects Division, gaining exposure to project budgeting, profitability analysis, earned value management, and strategic initiatives.

This role combines office‑based analytical work with field exposure through job‑site visits to understand project operations firsthand. This opportunity allows you to build relationships with senior leadership, understand the electrical construction industry from both financial and operational perspectives, and develop skills that will position you for success upon graduation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in project budget development, tracking, and analysis for Special Projects initiatives.
  • Support profitability analysis and reporting for ongoing projects and programs.
  • Learn and apply Earned Value Management (EVM) principles to track project performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with project managers and finance teams to gather data and prepare analytical reports.
  • Help develop financial models and forecasts to support strategic decision‑making.
  • Participate in job site visits (minimum 1‑2 throughout the summer) to gain exposure to field operations and understand how financial decisions impact project execution.
  • Navigate the IMS facility safely and participate in site tours as required.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during all site visits and field activities.
  • Participate in special projects and ad‑hoc analyses as business needs arise.
  • Maintain and update project tracking databases and financial spreadsheets.
  • Conduct research on industry best practices related to project controls and financial management.
  • Prepare presentations and reports for leadership review.
  • Provide general support to the Special Projects team in day‑to‑day activities.
  • Performs other duties as needed to support projects, operations, and the department.
Future Program Rotations

Following the initial summer in Special Projects, program participants will rotate through additional departments to gain comprehensive business knowledge:

  • Financial Operations & Financial Planning & Analysis (Fin Ops/FP&A)
  • Accounting or Estimating.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma required.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Preference for candidates committed to a multi‑summer internship program.
Skills & Abilities
  • Basic understanding of financial principles and business operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new environments and challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Interest in the construction industry and project‑based business models.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and wear required PPE in field environments.
  • Willingness to participate in site visits and navigate industrial/construction settings safely.
  • Familiarity with financial software and tools (e.g., Excel, ERP systems) is a plus.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

This job may work inside or outside with possible exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures and weather elements in restricted or confined spaces, and on slippery or uneven surfaces. This job may have exposure to working on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and other exposures typical of heavy construction. This job also operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
