Tax Specialist

Description We are looking for a dedicated Tax Specialist to join our team in Irving, Texas. This is a long-term contract position within the utilities/infrastructure industry, focusing on sales tax data management and customer record refinement. The role involves ensuring data accuracy and supporting certificate collection processes using specialized software tools.

Responsibilities:

- Clean and standardize customer data within the Vertex system to maintain accurate sales tax records.

- Review and organize customer records to eliminate inconsistencies and ensure uniform naming conventions.

- Extract and validate organizational numbers using integrated tools within Vertex.

- Consolidate and categorize customer data to create a comprehensive master file for sales tax purposes.

- Format customer data to meet Vertex system specifications for seamless exemption certificate retrieval.

- Assist with the setup and utilization of the Vertex Certificate Portal for document storage and processing.

- Conduct outreach to customers to collect or update sales tax exemption certificates.

- Perform light data analysis to verify the completeness and accuracy of collected documents.

- Ensure high-quality data integrity throughout all phases of the project. Requirements

- Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.

- Proficiency in performing bank reconciliations and coding invoices.

- Familiarity with Quick Books or similar accounting software.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain data accuracy.

- Previous experience with sales tax or indirect tax data is preferred but not required.

- Comfort with customer outreach and document collection activities.

- Analytical skills to assess and validate data effectively.

- Knowledge of Vertex software or tax certificate systems is a plus.
