Position:An exciting opportunity has arisen for a CDU Production Supervisor within our Central Decontamination Unit based at Ayrshire Central Hospital.
Hours:From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part‑time staff) without loss of earnings.
36 hours per week
Current shift pattern covers early, mid and late shift working Monday – Friday
Early shift - 7am – 2.00pm
Mid shift - 8am – 4.30pm
Late shift- 11.30am – 8pm
As a demand led service, these working hours/ days may change and will include working unsocial hours and Public Holidays. A flexible approach to shift patterns/ work routines is essential. The post holder is required to cover Supervisory on‑call duties.
Due to on‑call requirement, candidates should be based within 30 minutes travel of hospital site
This post is offered on a permanent basis only.
A UK car licence/car ownership is essential to this role.
What you will do:To actively participate as a member of the CDU Management Team in providing a safe, quality assured and cost effective decontamination service to all operating theatres, wards/ departments, clinic areas, maternity services and the wider community throughout Primary Care (including G.P.’s) throughout NHS Ayrshire & Arran Health Board area.
Responsibility for ensuring an effective workflow within the Department which incorporates safe systems of working and consistency of methods within regulatory requirements. Ensure all processes are compliant with the requirements of the Quality Management System, EN ISO 13485, Regulation 14 of Part II, UK MDR 2002 and Requirements for compliant Central Decontamination Units – GUID 5014.
The Supervisor is responsible for training, developing and motivating a team of Technicians and Senior Technicians through demonstration of a detailed knowledge of all decontamination processes, equipment and instrumentation whilst maintaining and developing their own knowledge and skills, ensuring that the end product is fit for purpose and provides continuing patient care/ safety.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:Essential requirements for the post are experience of working within decontamination including production and quality assurance; demonstrable experience and knowledge of safe systems of work for all decontamination equipment; the ability to train/ mentor staff; a working knowledge of IT tracking and traceability system and understanding of a quality management system.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also essential as is the ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team. The applicant should possess good organisational skills and be able to work effectively with minimal supervision and prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
