Position:An exciting opportunity for a Band 5 or Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join the Speech and Language Therapy Adult Team based at Ayrshire Central Hospital in Irvine. The successful candidate will be well supported by an established SLT team to work flexibly across our inpatient and outpatient service and will develop expertise in stroke and neurological rehabilitation and a wide range of clinical specialities.
Candidates who meet the Person Specification requirements at Band 5 will progress to Band 6 following completion of set competencies with an anticipated timeframe of 2 years. Candidates already meeting the Band 6 specification will also be considered.
From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full‑time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours pro‑rata for part‑time staff without loss of earnings. The post holds 36 hours per week over 5 days.
What you will do:The post holder will work collaboratively with ward staff and the wider MDT to promote inclusive communication environments, supporting best practice in communication and dysphagia. Knowledge or experience of working with the stroke population in an inpatient and/or community setting is advantageous. You will be allocated a Flying Start mentor and supported to complete RCSLT NQP competencies. Dysphagia training will be funded.
Regular support, supervision and opportunities to enhance your skills will be provided in line with Turas. This post will convert to a Band 6 role on successful completion of agreed competencies.
- Work across inpatient and outpatient services within an established SLT team.
- Promote inclusive communication environments in collaboration with ward staff and the MDT.
- Support best practice in communication and dysphagia.
- Complete RCSLT NQP competencies and funded dysphagia training.
Required:
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy and HCPC registration.
