Position Summary

The Compliance Associate will provide essential support to Tillys’ Compliance Manager and legal team. The position offers hands‑on experience across diverse legal compliance areas including merchandising, privacy, contracts, marketing, and e‑commerce while working in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and has prior experience in a compliance role. They are excited to work on a legal team within a retail company, contribute meaningfully to the business, and are comfortable handling a mix of substantive compliance and administrative responsibilities that support the legal team and day‑to‑day business operations.

This role provides exposure to legal matters, opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects supporting Tillys’ growing business, and ongoing mentorship with opportunities for professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

A typical day may include:

General Compliance Support
  • Support the Compliance Manager and rest of legal team with compliance practices in various areas, including:
  • Product safety and testing
  • Environmental compliance
  • Pricing compliance
  • Marketing and advertising compliance
  • Research and stay on top of new laws that affect the company, research requirements, and make recommendations to the Compliance Manager and business teams
Data Privacy Compliance
  • Shadow the Legal Compliance Analyst on data privacy matters, including managing the company’s compliance and internal processes with relation to privacy laws (e.g. CCPA, CPRA, COPA), as well as AI and cybersecurity‑related laws
  • Support the Legal Compliance Analyst by staying up to date on latest privacy laws and developments and updating company processes and policies accordingly
  • Support the Legal Compliance Analyst with certain privacy‑related tasks, including data deletions
General Legal Department Administrative Support
  • Manage DBA/FBN filings to ensure all filings are renewed on time
  • Manage billing process of legal vendors, including monthly accruals and invoices
  • Manage legal mail and Service of Process
  • Maintain active litigation tracker and settlement accruals tracker
  • Monitor and update the contract request tracker and ensure organization of fully executed contracts
  • Support the legal team on optimization of internal processes
Merchandising Document Management
  • Support the Compliance Manager on various Merchandising document management tasks, including tracking merchandising agreements in Docusign
  • Support the Compliance Manager by updating the company’s Master Merchandise Vendor List
Intellectual Property
  • Assist the Compliance Manager with keeping the company’s trademark portfolio up to date, including coordinating with outside counsel on trademark registrations
  • Support the Compliance Manager and Legal Director in reviewing potential Intellectual Property (trademark, copyright) issues in merchandise
  • Monitor Intellectual Property software and flag any concerning domains for Compliance Manager
