The Intern, R&D Food Science Technician will work with the Senior Food Scientist, Research & Development to weight, blend, and pack powder blends, run sensory testing, collect data that will measure product shelf life, maintain lab organization, and assist in the product development process as needed. This internship is anticipated to last through the end of August 2026.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain lab cleanliness and organization. Load/unload dishwasher, restock materials, and clean laboratory tools.
  • Weigh, blend, and pack powder blends upon requests for vendors and product cuttings. Stage products and blender bottles for product cuttings.
  • Retrieve raw materials with assistance from the warehouse.
  • Set up and run internal sensory testing.
  • Support with shelf-life studies of finished products by collecting data. Accurately record analytical data using pH meter, viscometer, density meter, moisture analyzers, and water activity.
  • Assist in preparation of small-scale batches of experimental formulations.
  • Comply with general laboratory safety and hygiene requirements.
  • Adhere to Orgain’s environmental policies, including our environmental purchasing and recycling policies.
  • Be an active member in enhancing Orgain’s social and environmental impact. Help us continue to evolve our commitment to the planet and the people we serve.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
Requirements

EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry or similar degree, or enrollment in senior year of bachelor’s program required. Active enrollment in advanced degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge of benchtop analytical and physical testing equipment and methods, including scales, pH meters, viscometers, and moisture analyzers.
