The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at UC Irvine Health School of Medicine is dedicated to the diagnosis and understanding of human diseases through biomedical and clinical research.
Using the latest technologies, our pathologists help advance medicine by finding better ways of diagnosing, managing and treating diseases. Your Role on the Team The laboratory studies the derivation of CPECS from human stem cells and the cell biology of the derived CPECs, as well as disease and aging-related features in pathology specimens of choroid plexus. Under supervision, the incumbent will perform routine experimental procedures and lab chores, including: cultures of human iPSCs, ESCs, derived CPECs, brain organoids and assembloids, experimental treatments of derived CPECs, phenotypic analyses of cultured cells, general lab support (making stock solutions, ordering, and maintaining lab databases), and maintenance of written records of these tasks.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required:
Mammalian cell culture experience Human stem cell culture and differentiation experience Immunocytochemistry experience Confocal fluorescence microscopy experience Ability to read and follow detailed written instructions Ability to record results and observations and maintain an organized, legible lab notebook Skill to pipet accurately Ability to use Macintosh or PC computers Knowledge and operation of routine lab equipment (power supplies, incubators, hoods, etc) Undergraduate level knowledge of Biology, Molecular Biology, or Chemistry Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related discipline Less than 1 year At least six months experience in human stem cell culture, derivation, and culture of derived cells, as well as analysis by immunostaining and microscopy.
