ATOCO, Inc. is a startup company founded by the distinguished scientist
Prof. Omar Yaghi, the inventor of MOFand COFchemistry.
ATOCOis currently working on technologies in the fields of atmospheric water harvesting and CO2 capture.
This position will join theinitialsmall startup R&D team that will be working on technology commercialization and technology transfer from the University of California, Berkeley. This position will focus onthe synthesis and analysis of various MOF,COFandpotentiallyother supramolecular materials to study their overall performance in adsorbing/desorbing
CO2and water.
- Synthesize various MOF& COFmaterialsat a variety of production scalesand perform comprehensive characterization of the physical and chemical properties.
- Work with and report to thehead of R&Dto achieve the department goals of developing commercial-grade MOF/COF-based technologies
- Investigate anddeterminecritical parameters to be addressed for commercialization.
- Operate instruments forthe synthesisandcharacterization of materials. Analytical techniques may includegasisotherm measurements,physisorption surface area and pore size analysis, particle size analysis,thermal gravimetric analysis,electron microscopy, moisture content analysis, solid state NMR, etc.
- Develop synthetic process of organic ligands for commercial-scale
- Mentor chemists and laboratory technicians to aid in research and development efforts
- Maintain an electronic notebook detailing all data measured, observations, and steps performed
- Present and report research results in projects, programreviewsandtechnical committees
- Contribute to the intellectual property of the company bywriting andparticipatingin invention disclosures and/orpeer-reviewed journals and conferences.
- Perform periodic reporting to management and participate in periodic joint brainstorming and technical meetings.
- Participate in collaborative joint research activities with research teams at partner universities.
- PhD inorganicchemistryfrom an accredited institution, along with a demonstrated record of achievement in research.
- Industry experience in organic synthetic chemistry
- Strong research background, including peer-reviewed publications.
- Minimum of 3 years of research experiencepostthe PhD degree.
- Industry experience of 5-10 years.
- Proven track recordof research activities in the fieldof
MOFand/or COFmaterials. - Familiar with health and safety procedures in chemistry labs.
