At UC Irvine’s Gavin Herbert Eye Institute and Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, our faculty of internationally recognized physicians, surgeons and scientists provide highly specialized training to future ophthalmologists, access to leading‑edge clinical trials as well as sight‑saving treatments and therapies for virtually any eye disorder.
Eye surgeons, stem cell researchers, geneticists, infectious disease specialists and engineers are working on technologies and treatments for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, corneal disease and cataracts as well as a vaccine to prevent eye and genital herpes infections. These efforts have vaulted UC Irvine School of Medicine into the top echelons of U.S. institutions receiving National Institutes of Health grants for vision research.

Research associates will be involved with the clinical studies performed by the Anterior Segment Ocular Imaging Lab. Responsibilities will include assisting with patient recruitment, data collection, imaging acquisition and analysis, data analysis and management of clinical data and be an active member of the study team and work in tandem with research fellows, clinicians, and laboratory scientists. Assistance with manuscript preparation and presentation of study results is encouraged.

Required:
- Proficiency in using database software including Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, and Power Point).
- Experience performing research duties in a research environment. Experience with following a research protocol in order to carry‑out study procedures and collect data.
- Ability to work with research team including preparing and responding to data queries.
- Proven ability to work with minimal direction and work collaboratively with the research team and investigators.
- Basic understanding of ophthalmic terminology and anatomy.
- Experience with slit lamp biomicroscopy and operating common ocular imaging devices
- Experience working in a clinical setting with adult patients.
- HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Bachelor of Science degree in a Human Biology or related science field
