Postdoctoral Scholar – Aging, Alzheimer’s, and Dementia Research
Our team in the Department of Neurology at UC Irvine is looking for a Postdoctoral Scholar to join our Neuroscience Research Lab led by Dr. Ali Ezzati. We study Alzheimer’s disease, related dementias, and brain aging using large-scale clinical, biomarker, and digital datasets to advance data‑driven neuroscience.
About the RoleThis is a comprehensive research position designed for a postdoctoral scholar aiming to become an independent investigator. The fellow will be involved in all phases of clinical and epidemiologic studies: from protocol development and IRB submissions to study design, data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation. Our lab works with multimodal data, including neuroimaging, digital and biofluid biomarkers, cognitive assessments, and longitudinal cohort and trial data.
The ideal candidate is proactive, detail‑oriented, and interested in gaining end‑to‑end experience in real‑world dementia research.

- Prepare IRB protocols and regulatory documents
- Coordinate study workflows, including recruitment, data management, and documentation
- Analyze data from observational studies and clinical trials
- Integrate information from neuroimaging, cognitive testing, and biomarker assays
- Write manuscripts and assist with grant applications
- Mentor trainees and contribute to team meetings and lab operations
- Work closely with faculty in neurology, epidemiology, and data science to advance ongoing research projects
- PhD (completed or expected no later than March 2026) in epidemiology, neuroscience, biostatistics, bioinformatics, or a related field
- Prior experience with clinical or population‑based studies
- Proficiency in R and/or Python
- Strong scientific writing and communication skills
- Evidence of productivity through peer‑reviewed publications or conference presentations
- Interest or background in Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, cognitive aging, or neurodegenerative diseases
- Experience working with IRBs, clinical study protocols, or regulatory processes
- Familiarity with neuroimaging, digital cognitive tools, or biofluid biomarkers and AI and machine learning methodologies
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple project components
This is a full‑time, in‑person position based at the UC Irvine campus in Irvine, California. The postdoctoral scholar will be part of a growing multidisciplinary research environment within the Department of Neurology and the Center for Design, Discovery, and Data Analytics in Neurological Disorders.
Application ProcessPlease submit your application through the official UCI recruitment portal. Be sure to include a cover letter that outlines your interest in this position and how your background aligns with our lab’s research focus.
