Supported by a regional network of care, our 11‑acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to the City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.
With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment.
We are seeking experienced Charge Nurses to join our Medical Surgical team as a Clinical Nurse IV. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing clinical operations, ensuring high‑quality patient care, and guiding nursing practice standards during your assigned shift.
Responsibilities- Oversee clinical functions related to the delivery of patient care and the quality of nursing practice in the Medical Surgical department.
- Coordinate patient care by directing staff and unit functions while maintaining clinical nursing practice skills.
- Ensure continuity and congruity of services through coordination of the department, supervision, and direction of staff, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
- Serve as a role model and clinical resource to colleagues, staff, and patients.
- Think critically, act decisively, and provide compassionate support to patients and families.
- Effectively communicate, document, and integrate cultural, psychosocial, and spiritual needs into care plans.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing (required).
- Current California Registered Nurse license.
- Minimum of three (3) years related experience.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card through American Heart Association.
- Current national certification must be maintained to retain CN IV status;
City of Hope approves appropriate ANCC Magnet‑recognized certifications. - Previous Charge Nurse and/or leadership experience (required).
- Prior oncology experience (required). ONS chemotherapy/immunotherapy certification desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, caring and empathetic demeanor.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced clinical setting.
- Problem solving, critical and creative thinking.
- Multitasking, prioritizing, and organizing daily responsibilities.
- Delegating and empowering staff, building strong employee morale.
- Mentoring and providing constructive feedback.
- Working independently with minimal direction.
- Providing emotional support and compassionate presence to patients.
- Understanding of Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory requirements.
Night shift differential up to $6.50/hr and weekend differential up to $16.50/hr.
