Machinist Sr. – Military Flight Controls Division

Military Flight Controls Division (MFCD) supports aircraft worldwide. MFCD provides primary and secondary flight control systems with precise position-control actuation solutions for military aircraft and has Jet Pipe® electrohydraulic servo valve (EHSV) technology used across commercial and military aircraft. The division is headquartered in Irvine, California, and is a global leader in fly-by-wire flight control systems and electrohydraulic products.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and run multiple production machines. Perform machine operations (including reworking parts) such as cutting, shaping, deburring, forming, drilling, and reaming. Make necessary machine adjustments and report improper machine functioning or cutting action for correction.
  • Align and fasten work using standard fixtures and established methods.
  • Install and adjust cutting tools appropriate to material and operation.
  • Follow established manufacturing methods using standard production machines, materials, and tooling.
  • Adjust feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to produce quality parts per documentation.
  • Operate hand and power tools to deburr precision and complex machine parts in accordance with blueprints and route sheets to close tolerances.
  • Inspect parts for conformance using measuring instruments (gages, calipers, micrometers, comparators) and magnification equipment as needed; visually inspect for burrs or damaged surfaces.
  • Maintain equipment for cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability per division requirements.
  • Perform statistical process control (SPC) specific to division requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for lean improvements and apply lean concepts/tools in the work area.
  • Adhere to company policies and safety rules; maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as requested.
Qualifications
  • Three years of related machining experience. Ability to work with limited guidance in a team environment.
  • Ability to set up machines and read/interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of machine shop mathematics, including trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply lean initiatives effectively.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; able to work in a team.
  • Interprets reports and uses job-specific software; able to access online information and use automated systems (e.g., PMR, TORS, e-mail).
  • Demonstrates team member competencies and participates in goal setting, performance feedback, and self-development activities.
Typical Demands

May involve walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods. Requires manual dexterity, use of hands to operate machinery, and close vision. May require lifting up to 50 lbs. Regular attendance and ability to work cooperatively with others are expected; the physical and mental demands described are representative of the job functions.

Compensation, Benefits & Schedule

Pay - Pay Range: $26.65/hr to $40.25/hr participation in Annual Incentive Program.
