Lead a team to provide a second home for beloved pets. This is a hands-on leadership role with a focus on delivering exceptional care and experiences for pets and their families at a Best Friends Pet Care location.
Responsibilities- Lead and mentor a team of 15+ animal care professionals in a positive, collaborative culture; recruit, train, and develop staff.
- Oversee daily care routines including feeding, medicating, grooming, exercise, and playtime; maintain accurate health and behavior records.
- Enforce safety protocols and maintain a best-in-class boarding facility; respond to emergencies in collaboration with the District Manager.
- Serve as liaison between frontline team members and headquarters; manage schedules balancing pet care excellence with budget efficiency.
- Deliver exceptional client service; build lasting relationships with pet parents and encourage feedback to elevate the client experience.
- Manage payroll, budgets, and financial reporting in coordination with the District Manager and administrative support.
- Oversee inventory and purchasing; collaborate with marketing to promote services and community outreach.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and Best Friends Pet Care guidelines across the facility.
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Business Management, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of management experience overseeing a team of 15+ employees (required).
- Hands-on animal care experience with a deep understanding of animal behavior, health, and welfare practices.
- Proactive, organized, and adaptable mindset; strong communication skills with the ability to inspire and lead.
- Financial management experience including payroll, budgets, and expense control.
- Willingness to continue education and training with a dynamic pet care organization.
- Must be able to lift large dogs and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and climb stairs for extended periods; be on feet for eight hours per day.
- Must be able to work with computer systems and multi-line phone; ability to handle dogs on leashes.
- Exposure to disinfectants, sanitation chemicals, animal dander, and excretions.
Work location:
In person. Relocation to Irvine, CA preferred/required for this role.
