Legal Liability Trial Attorney

Overview

Zurich is seeking a successful Liability Trial Attorney to work out of our Irvine, CA Staff Legal office on a hybrid schedule. The ideal candidate will represent commercial insureds of a financially stable commercial insurance carrier, handling a challenging mix of General Liability, Commercial Auto, and Products Liability cases.

• Engage in all aspects of insurance defense, including initial investigation and legal analysis, preparing and filing pleadings, legal research, pre-trial discovery, hearings, and trials, and post-trial activities where appropriate.
• Demonstrate case analysis ability with a track record of trial and settlement skills; work independently with minimal supervision.
• Achieve best outcomes for clients through technical excellence in case handling, trial preparation, and presentation for moderate to high complexity matters.
• Apply the law and legal trends effectively; manage pre-trial discovery and participate in judicial or administrative hearings and trials.
• Document case files accurately and maintain information in compliance with best practices.
• Collaborate with claims adjusters to develop case strategy and escalate issues as needed to achieve timely resolutions.
• Provide excellent client service by proactively communicating information and responding to inquiries.
• Determine and implement appropriate alternative dispute resolution techniques, using mediation and negotiation skills within authority limits.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge through education, industry trends, and professional involvement; mentor lower-level attorneys as needed.
• Ensure legal compliance with state and federal laws and protect Zurich’s confidential information.

• Juris Doctor and 5+ years of experience in the Litigation area
• Member in good standing of the California State Bar
• Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe
• Experience with Lexis or Westlaw
• Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and the insurance defense litigation environment
• Knowledge of the law and procedure

• Effective communication and negotiation skills
• Experience working in a team-based environment and collaboration skills
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities

Pay is based on role, location, skills, and experience. The proposed salary range for this position is $ – $, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility of 10%. Zurich may offer bonuses and merit increases consistent with local laws and company policy.
