Clinical Laboratory Manager - Cytogenetics

  • Under the direction of, and in the absence of, senior laboratory leadership, the Laboratory Manager ensures effective performance of all laboratory operations and procedures.
  • Presents data and information across multiple organizational levels and responds clearly to questions from staff, managers, and clients.
  • Recommends, validates, documents, and implements laboratory test methods and systems.
  • Initiates and monitors laboratory quality assurance programs and ensures regulatory compliance.
  • Reports problem cases and abnormal findings to laboratory leadership to ensure timely resolution and follow up.
  • Ensures the quality of service meets the requirements of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and organizational standards, policies, and guidelines.
  • Oversees quality control procedures and ensures reports are current and accurate.
  • Ensures required documentation is submitted for annual review or approval related to new or revised processes.
  • Oversees and prepares for regulatory and accreditation inspections in coordination with laboratory leadership.
  • Establishes departmental objectives and performance goals; monitors staffing and resource utilization and adjusts as needed.
  • Oversees personnel management activities including hiring, training, motivating, and evaluating staff.
  • Conducts or guides performance evaluations, documents deficiencies, and develops improvement plans.
  • Reviews workload metrics, productivity data, and budget reports; adjusts staffing models as necessary.
  • Evaluates and selects laboratory equipment, technologies, vendors, and testing methodologies.
  • Ensures a safe work environment and promotes safe laboratory practices.
  • Maintains advanced knowledge of CAP and CLIA requirements relevant to the assigned discipline.
  • Accountable for a 24 hour laboratory operation, including emergency response and off hours meetings as required.
Additional Responsibilities
  • May perform duties typically assigned to a Laboratory Supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by laboratory leadership.
  • Achieves full competency in departmental processes within defined onboarding timelines.
  • Ensures department meets or exceeds productivity and quality expectations.
  • Ensures personnel maintain satisfactory competency assessment results.
  • Manages resources efficiently to meet departmental and organizational goals.
  • Communicates effectively across all levels of the organization.
Education
  • Master’s degree in chemical, physical, or biological sciences with required post graduate clinical laboratory experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, or biological sciences with additional specialty training and extended clinical laboratory experience.
Requirements
  • Active CG(ASCP) certification
  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) License
    issued by CDPH (LFS)Required to work in CA - If you don t have this can be acquired especially if you are relocating to CA.
  • This is often referred to as “CDPH license” or “CA CLS (CDPH)”
  • Experience meeting CLIA high-complexity requirements for cytogenetics
Experience
  • 8 or more years of high complexity clinical laboratory experience preferred.
  • 4 or more years of direct supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory environment.

Relocation is offered for candidates who do not reside in CA.
