The UCI Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND) is the only state and federally funded Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC). UCI MIND is funded through a grant from the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and has a rich tradition of basic and clinical research in the fields of brain aging and cognitive disorders. Our mission is to discover means to improve the lives of people with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

We also commit substantial effort to community outreach and education, with the goals of keeping the community abreast of our progress, sharing learnings that can help community members reduce their risk for dementia, and increasing awareness of the need for research volunteers to accelerate progress toward improved medical care.

Your Role on the Team

The Psychologist will serve as a member of the interdisciplinary clinical and research team at the UCI Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) within UCI MIND. Under the direction of the Medical Director of the UCI MIND ADRC, the incumbent will administer standardized cognitive and related assessments to older adult research participants and patients enrolled in the ADRC's longitudinal cohort, clinical trials, and related clinical research projects.

The role also supports additional collaborative clinical programs involving neuropsychological and structured assessments.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Administer routine and complex batteries of neuropsychological and other structured clinical assessments to patients and research participants
  • Scoring and interpretation of psychometric tests
  • Interview and collect data from patients/participants and caregivers
  • Consensus diagnosis and research data analysis with research clinician team
  • Report writing and documentation
  • Assist with screening and scheduling of patients/participants

This role requires empathy and attentiveness to the physical and psychological needs of older adults and individuals with neurocognitive disorders.

The incumbent should be comfortable functioning within an academic research setting and is expected to participate in research studies as part of routine duties. The role also includes training responsibilities and shared oversight and supervision of neuropsychology and other trainees.

What It Takes to be Successful Required
  • Minimum of one-year experience in the administration and scoring of neuropsychological tests
  • Candidates should have strong knowledge of the following:
    Foundational knowledge of neuropsychological assessment, including standardized cognitive tests commonly used in aging, dementia, and Alzheimer's disease research. Understanding of major neurocognitive disorders, including diagnostic criteria, clinical presentations, and progression patterns. Familiarity with clinical research methods, including study protocols, data collection procedures, and human subjects' protection. Working knowledge of academic medical center operations, multidisciplinary care models, and procedures for clinical documentation.

    Awareness of cultural, linguistic, and educational factors that influence neuropsychological test validity and participant performance.
