The UCI Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND) is the only state and federally funded Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC). UCI MIND is funded through a grant from the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and has a rich tradition of basic and clinical research in the fields of brain aging and cognitive disorders. Our mission is to discover means to improve the lives of people with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

We also commit substantial effort to community outreach and education, with the goals of keeping the community abreast of our progress, sharing learnings that can help community members reduce their risk for dementia, and increasing awareness of the need for research volunteers to accelerate progress toward improved medical care.

Your Role on the Team

Under general guidance from the Clinical Research Coordinator Supervisor and the Manager of Clinical Operations, the incumbent will provide administrative support and coordination of the clinical evaluation and research programs at the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) at UCI Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND). Independently responsible for coordinating all aspects of the studies with constantly changing procedures.

The incumbent will coordinate research support for a neuroscience clinical/research team that evaluates research subjects in longitudinal studies of cognitive, behavioral, and functional status in groups of both memory‑impaired and healthy elderly subjects. This involves responsibility for screening of candidates for research studies, coordination of research procedures and evaluations, tracking of data collection, as well as overseeing subject recruitment and retention.

Required:

  • Ability to multi‑task in an environment with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrates experience with human subjects research, informed consent process, and IRB requirements.
  • Organizational skills and ability to establish effective workload priorities.
  • Experience working with EPIC software packages to accommodate registration of research and clinic participants. Will Train.
  • Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to analyze administrative issues involving long‑range planning.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and to act and interact on sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to act independently and demonstrated problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of faculty, staff, participants, and public.
  • Proven ability to set priorities in a high‑volume environment with frequent/multiple deadlines.
  • HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities.

Preferred:

  • Bilingual English and Mandarin or Spanish. Comfortable in presenting at educational forums and settings in both English and Mandarin or Spanish.
  • Knowledge of computer applications (Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Experience working in a medical/clinical setting including files/medical records management, medical terminology and data abstraction.
  • Experience with and concern for older adults, specifically people affected by Alzheimer s disease or other forms of dementia
