Overview
Senior Tax Manager — Hybrid (Irvine, CA or Indian Wells, CA)
Are you a high-performing Senior Tax Manager feeling capped or siloed in a "Big 100" firm? Are you ready to take on partner-level responsibilities, steward key client relationships, and see your advice make a direct, observable impact on a client's business?
O’Brien & Panchuk, LLP is a growth-oriented, advisory-led CPA practice. We are a small, high-performing firm by design. We are seeking a technical tax leader for a key strategic role—one that offers a direct line to clients and partners, without the bureaucracy.
We serve a sophisticated clientele of closely held businesses, real-estate entities, and high-net-worth family groups, with a particular depth in international tax and complex multi-entity structures.
Responsibilities- Client & Engagement Leadership:
Serve as the primary advisor for a sophisticated book of business. Lead client meetings, manage engagement economics, and quarterback the entire engagement lifecycle, from planning and forecasting to final delivery. - Complex Advisory:
Drive high-value advisory projects, including entity structuring, cash/tax forecasting, real-estate structures (1031) partnership transactions, supporting international tax planning (treaty analysis, FTCs) in collaboration with partner/s. - Technical Excellence:
Act as the technical reviewer for complex multi-entity returns (S-corps, partnerships, trusts, professional corporations), including multi-state, and related-party structures. - Team & Practice Development:
Supervise, mentor, and develop seniors and staff. Foster a culture of technical excellence, enforce workpaper standards, and drive workflow improvements (including the prudent use of assisted review tools).
- 7+ years of progressive public accounting experience with a heavy focus on technical review of complex entities.
- MST, JD, or LL.M. in Taxation (Strongly Preferred).
- S-corporation and partnership taxation (Subchapters K & S)
- Professional corporations
- Strong command of federal and California taxation; multi-state experience is essential.
- Proven ability to manage and mentor a team.
- Excellent client-facing skills and executive presence.
- International tax exposure is a strong plus.
This is more than a job; it's a career-defining leadership opportunity.
- Bypass "Big Firm" Bureaucracy:
We are a lean, advisory-led firm. You won’t have to deal with the internal politics, rigid structures, or uncertainties of a massive environment. Instead, you get direct access to partners and the autonomy to make decisions. - Observable Client Impact:
This is not a back-room review role. As a key leader, you will interface directly with clients—the business owners and family groups. Your strategic advice will have a clear, observable effect on their operations and cash flow. - Autonomy & Visibility:
You will work directly with partners, and your contributions to firm strategy and client success will be highly visible. We trust our leaders to manage their work and their teams. - A Modern Firm Culture:
We provide competitive compensation with a performance-based bonus, a flexible hybrid schedule (Irvine office + remote), and a collaborative, respectful environment.
We understand that candidates at this level value discretion.
If you are a CPA who excels in complex, multi-entity tax work and is ready to step into a significant leadership role, we want to talk to you.
