Associate – Primaries

We are seeking an Associate to join our growing North American primaries investment team in our Irvine office (hybrid role–three days minimum in office). You will be responsible for analyzing and evaluating private equity primary investment opportunities as well as monitoring and reporting on client portfolios. Responsibilities
  • Assist in the initial pre-screening of new primary investment opportunities
  • Organize the due diligence process from initial evaluation through close, which includes meeting with investment managers (in person and/or virtually)
  • Oversee and conduct various quantitative analyses
  • Coordinate with investment managers and placement agents
  • Prepare comprehensive investment memos and reports
  • Present recommendations to Pathway’s investment committee and select clients
  • Oversee investment analysts on a variety of deal teams to ensure quality of work and due diligence timeliness
  • Assist in the post-close monitoring process, including reviewing investment manager quarterly and annual reporting packages
  • Participate in update meetings with managers in person and virtually
  • Write and produce monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports for Pathway clients
  • Analyze client portfolio performance
  • Prepare client presentations
  • Attend and participate in client meetings and presentations
  • Assist with special primary-related research and reporting projects
Qualifications
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in a private markets primary investment role, preferably with an allocator or an institutional investor
  • Extensive knowledge of the private equity asset class with experience in private equity primary investment underwriting
  • Excellent business writing, presentation, and research skills
  • Ability to work efficiently, manage to deadlines, and coordinate effectively with team members, both junior and senior
  • Ability and desire to work in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment
  • Ability to proactively take on tasks and work independently
  • Ability to interpret qualitative and quantitative data, and add own judgment to the investment process
  • Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with software applications such as MS Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Undergraduate degree required with a record of high academic achievement; MBA or CFA (or progress toward either) preferred but not required
  • Willingness to travel periodically for meetings with both investment managers and clients
Pay Range and Compensation Package
  • Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses, comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance and retirement plans. Salary range: $110,000 – $140,000 annually.
