Senior Accountant II – Axos Bank
Axos is seeking a Senior Accountant II responsible for preparing journal entries, maintaining the company’s general ledger, and managing third‑party transactions. This role also supports the design of controls for the company’s SOX program. Additional responsibilities include ad‑hoc accounting tasks, internal controls, regulatory compliance, technical research, accrual analysis, and reconciliations. The position involves leading projects, reviewing work, and training peers and staff members.
The ideal candidate has expertise in complex accounting and regulatory standards, including researching issues and presenting alternative solutions.
- Maintain records of organization’s financial activity in accordance with GAAP, organizational standards, and Section 404 of the Sarbanes‑Oxley Act
- Create reports on financial performance for internal and external use
- Complete month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end closing activities related to foreign exchange, cash management, and tax, including preparing the appropriate audit work papers
- Ensure accuracy, validity, and completeness of all documentation necessary to meet regulatory requirements
- Participate in and lead cross‑functional meetings
- Prepare and present reports to management
- Research technical accounting issues and propose potential alternatives
- Possess advanced knowledge of operational systems
- Create materials for audit support and presentations to auditors and executive management
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in financial services or a regulated industry
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, SOX compliance, and internal controls
- Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Ability to analyze complex accounting issues and provide alternative solutions
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills

Target Range: $70,000 – $95,000 per year. Eligible for an annual discretionary cash bonus target of 10% and an annual discretionary restricted stock units bonus target of 10%. Actual starting pay will vary based on geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
