System Director, Financial Planning and Analysis - Decision Support
UCI Health is the clinical enterprise of the University of California, Irvine. It is the only academic health system based in Orange County and includes a 459‑bed acute care hospital, four hospitals and affiliated physicians, and ambulatory centers across the region. The UCI Medical Center is a nationally recognized, 24/7 Level I trauma center and the only National Cancer Institute‑designated comprehensive cancer center in Orange County.
UCI Health serves a region of nearly 4 million people in Orange County, western Riverside County and southeast Los Angeles County.
Incumbent is responsible for the direction of system‑wide financial planning and analysis (FP&A) across UCI’s academic health system. This includes establishing and directing the rhythm of business across the health system; facilitating development, consolidation, reporting and analysis of the annual operating and capital budgets, cost accounting and service‑line financials; labor benchmarking and productivity; and enabling FP&A data, process and systems.
Key Responsibilities- Lead system‑wide FP&A strategy and execution.
- Establish and maintain the quarterly rhythm of financial reporting and analysis.
- Consolidate and analyze operating and capital budgets, cost accounting, and service‑line financials.
- Perform labor benchmarking, productivity analysis and financial performance monitoring.
- Enable FP&A data, process and systems, including decision‑support platforms.
- Collaborate with finance, clinical, operations and executive leaders to support short‑term tactical and long‑term strategic planning.
- Universal knowledge of general and fund accounting.
- Three or more years of management experience in finance in a healthcare or relevant setting.
- Strong working knowledge of process improvement principles and change management methods.
- Significant experience with financial planning and decision‑support systems (Strata, Epsi or Axiom).
- Significant experience with decision‑support systems such as Eclipsys Epsi, Med Assets, or McKesson.
- Significant experience with and understanding of health‑care information technology, including clinical information systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; effective report writing and presentation skills.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work for self and others.
- Ability to develop financial and operational systems to accurately monitor and control organizational activities.
- Ability to accurately analyze complex financial and accounting data and effectively communicate it to a wide variety of executives, faculty, and other constituents in lay terms.
- Master’s degree in business administration, health administration, CPA, or other relevant degree program.
- Leadership or relevant management consulting experience in an academic medical center or complex teaching environment.
