Industrial Project Manager - Substation/Utilities

CDM Smith Industrial Division is seeking an exciting Project Manager to lead design and engineering teams on utility projects across California. The role includes consulting, engineering, design‑build and EPC projects in T&D, substation, generation, civil works, geothermal, geotechnical, and environmental areas for major western clients. The Project Manager will manage power grid upgrades, expansion, resilience, and sustaining capital projects while ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.

• Manage small to large complex engineering projects within the Utility Market from early concept development through detailed design and construction support.
• Lead and manage a team to develop scope, schedule, and budget for proposal development as part of a larger sales team.
• Lead and manage a multi‑discipline engineering and compliance team to deliver required deliverables to meet project deadlines and budgets.
• Manage quality, risk, schedule, and change management.
• Serve as a mentor and leader of multi‑discipline project teams.
• Perform and lead technical problem solving with a team of multi‑discipline engineers.
• Provide guidance and review at the project level while ensuring discipline and quality standards are adhered to.
• Act as the main client contact and liaison during project execution to deliver a legendary client experience and grow the account.
• Identify opportunities with existing clients, especially by expanding service offerings.
• Apply innovation to solve problems of high complexity within the area of expertise with support from the engineering team.
• Work effectively with lead practitioners, quality managers, and key technical specialists.

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of related experience.
• PMP (PMI), CCM, or DBIA certification required within 12 months of hire or promotion.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; frequency depends on project demands.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience considered in lieu of a degree.

Pay Range: $138,258 – $241,966
