The organization is currently investing in growth, expanding its R&D capabilities, and building the next generation of advanced medical and ventilation technologies.
They pride themselves on a collaborative culture, technical excellence, and a mission‑driven environment where engineering directly impacts patient outcomes.
As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will play a key technical leadership role in the design, analysis, and sustainment of complex electronic systems used in regulated medical devices. You will analyze electrical circuits, design and modify printed circuit boards, and lead engineering change activities across the product lifecycle. Working closely with cross‑functional partners—including mechanical, software, regulatory, manufacturing, and quality teams—you will help translate product requirements into robust, compliant designs while identifying and mitigating technical risk.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze electrical circuits and identify qualified substitutes for obsolete or end‑of‑life components.
- Design electrical circuits and develop or modify PCB layouts to support new and sustaining product needs.
- Lead Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for electronic design updates, collaborating with Mechanical, Software, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.
- Support product development activities including prototyping, bench testing, pilot builds, verification and validation, and risk assessment.
- Interface with internal and external suppliers and manufacturing partners to support design, testing, and qualification of fixtures and fabrication processes.
- Create clear, well‑documented product and system‑level electrical requirements.
- Proactively identify design, compliance, and product risks, and develop mitigation and resolution plans.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 6+ years of professional electrical engineering experience, including at least 3 years in regulated medical device development.
- Strong system‑level troubleshooting skills and embedded systems experience.
- Proven experience with electrical design documentation and ECO processes.
- Working knowledge of design controls, change management, and root‑cause analysis in a regulated environment.
- Experience with analog and mixed‑signal design, including motor control, switching regulators, op‑amps, EMC, and wireless systems.
- Analog circuit design involving ADCs, DACs, op‑amps, solenoids, motor drivers, and switching regulators.
- Experience designing medical products to meet Safety, EMC, and wireless compliance requirements.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex PCBs at the component and system level.
- Familiarity with ISO standards and regulatory requirements applicable to medical device development.
- Experience supporting sustaining engineering and long‑term product lifecycle management.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross‑functional and external partners.
- Ability to independently assess technical issues, determine root cause, and drive corrective actions with minimal guidance.
- Full‑time role with a flexible schedule and a standard 40‑hour work week.
- Onsite presence required five days per week.
- You will join a small, highly skilled electrical engineering team (3–5 engineers) within a larger R&D organization of approximately 20 professionals.
- The company is undergoing facility expansion and relocation in the coming year, offering a unique opportunity to influence processes, culture, and technical direction within a growing organization and an industry leader in the ventilation and critical‑care space.
