At Turion Space, we’re building spacecraft to secure Earth and expand humanity’s reach beyond it. As a Senior Wire Harness Designer at Turion Space, you will be responsible for the design, development, and integration of electrical harnesses for aerospace systems. This role involves creating detailed harness layouts, routing, and assembly drawings to meet stringent aerospace standards and program requirements. This is a full‑time, exempt position based on‑site at our Irvine, California headquarters.
Key Responsibilities
- Own harness design and documentation from concept through launch across multiple spacecraft projects
- Create and maintain harnessing documentation including drawings, and wire diagrams
- Write harness instructions and iterate based on technician feedback
- Serve as the wire harnessing subject matter expert (SME) and consult with other disciplines
- Select and manage vendors for aerospace electrical components including connectors, crimps, shielding, overwrap, and wires
- Manage harness vendors and build processes and priorities
- Define test acceptance procedures, own final acceptance and lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Perform harness routing within complex assemblies and ensure compliance with space constraints and environmental requirements
- Support and participate in space vehicle integration in clean room
- Maintain effective communication with all the functional groups to ensure manufacturability and project success (including mechanical, manufacturing, software, test, and supply chain)
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent technical experience.
- 7+ years of hands‑on experience designing and assembling wire harnesses in a high‑reliability environment.
- Proficiency in tools for harness design (Altium, CATIA Electrical, Creo Cabling, or similar).
- Knowledge of wire selection, shielding, EMI/EMC considerations.
- Confidence working in the lab with automated test equipment, hipot testers, DMMs, and power supplies.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings; excellent attention to detail.
- Familiarity with aerospace standards (AS50881, NASA-STD-8739.4, IPC/WHMA-A-620)
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification
- Hands‑on experience assembling harnesses, soldering and crimping, with D-sub, micro‑D, nano‑D, MIL-DTL-38999, Harwin Datamate, and other connectors
- Experience with PLM systems (Teamcenter, Windchill)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret and/or a TS/SCI clearance.
