Role Description

Arcadis has an immediate need for an Asbestos and Lead Inspector/Monitor on our Regulated Building Material and Industrial Hygiene team in the Los Angeles area. The role includes performing field work for asbestos and lead‑related projects, such as inspections, abatement monitoring/oversight, air sampling and onsite analysis. Additional tasks may include indoor air quality (IAQ)/mold investigations, building characterization assessments, and report writing.

The position requires a valid state of California Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST) asbestos credential and a valid state of California Lead Sampling Technician credential. The role will be based out of either our Los Angeles or Irvine offices, with project sites throughout the greater Southern California area. Project‑specific training will be provided as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Routinely interact and communicate with Arcadis’ project managers, leaders, abatement contractors, consultants, and client personnel to ensure on‑time and satisfactory project performance.
  • Manage and self‑perform tasks associated with inspections, surveys, and abatement monitoring for asbestos, lead, mold (water intrusion), IAQ, and other regulated building materials at a variety of facilities including commercial, public schools, financial, retail, industrial, chemical, manufacturing, oil/gas, and electrical sites.
  • Provide detailed written and electronic field notes and sampling summaries for work conducted.
  • Travel to project locations in the greater Southern California area on a daily basis and for longer distances, including overnight stays as required.
  • Work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, and extended work beyond 8 hours depending on project needs.
Ideal Candidate
  • Problem‑solving skills: able to identify problems and implement corrective processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned work and contribute to team success, including self‑performance, prioritizing schedules, and responding to phone and email requests.
  • Willingness to learn new digital technologies for field services.
  • Physical capability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs and climb and descend ladder.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Ability to clear background check, pass medical exam, and be medically cleared to wear negative‑pressure respirator.
  • Ability to work independently or on teams with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience in consulting environment with lead‑paint, hazardous building materials management, indoor air quality, mold evaluations, and ventilation system assessments.
  • State of California Certified Site Surveillance Technician.
  • State of California Lead Sampling Technician preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AS or BS in physical sciences or industrial hygiene, safety, environmental sciences, or related engineering fields (not required).
  • General understanding of HVAC systems, building mechanical systems, and building construction.
  • General understanding of building renovation and demolition.
  • CDPH Lead Inspector, Assessor, or Project Monitor.
  • NIOSH 582 certification or equivalent.
  • OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER and OSHA 30‑hour Construction certifications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
