Role SummaryWe are currently hiring for this role at both the Mid‑Level and Senior‑Level Engineer levels.
In this role, you will join the Energy Storage and Distribution Systems Engineering at Rivian Volkswagen Group Technologies (RVTech) responsible for integrating our vertically integrated HW and SW stack with Energy Storage Systems (ESS) from Rivian and Volkswagen into their vehicles. You will take a hands‑on approach to architect, design and implement the systems in our platform. You will work with a cross functional team across SW, HW, attributes, data, and user experience to define, decompose, and integrate the energy management system.
Your role is to develop the architecture and definition of the high voltage and battery management software for all our products. You will work directly with colleagues from each brand to decompose the architecture requirements into implementable software requirements, develop test cases, and follow through execution to ensure test success and coverage for the system.
Responsibilities- Define and decompose functions of the high voltage and battery system through collaboration with cross functional teams to define user stories, system definition, and functional requirements
- Drive the design and architecture of battery and high voltage software and controls for your areas of responsibility
- Work cross functionally across HW, SW, and with brand ESS teams to align across teams and brands
- Develop a scalable architecture across multiple battery platforms and chemistries
- Support development of vehicle architecture through trade studies, proof of concept, modelling and strategic analysis
- Develop and document requirements from a feature level down to functional and component levels for implementation
- Develop test requirements for system characterization to support decomposition of system requirements.
- Support integration activities of features by participating in board bring‑up, HIL testing, validation testing, and other critical implementation tasks to bring features to life
- Support cross functional team in issue resolution through data analysis, and hands‑on testing
- Coordinate the system delivery and timing to ensure achievement of requirements and development milestones.
- Develop a comprehensive DVP&R working with development engineers to formulate, conduct, and capture validation tests at various levels (SIL, HIL, Component, and Vehicle)
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with electrical HV systems at the component or subcomponent is a must
- Experience with requirement development for HV safety critical systems
- Experience with fault tree analysis and Design Failure Mode and Effects (DFMEA) analysis for HV systems
- Development and integration experience with embedded systems preferred
- Experience with controls validation efforts at different test levels (SIL/HIL/Component/Vehicle)
- Experience and knowledge of battery systems
- Experience and knowledge of HV vehicle systems
Ability to work in a fast‑paced development environment - Good team player with effective communication skills
