Trim Engineer II (North America Quality Center - NAQC)
Hyundai's North America Quality Center (NAQC) is looking for a Trim Engineer II to focus on continuous development and enhancement of trim systems for Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia vehicles.
NAQC is the quality arm for Hyundai Motor Group's North American vehicle models, aiming to become the leading automotive manufacturer in North America by delivering uncompromising quality and exceeding consumer expectations.
Responsibilities- Investigate and support testing of interior and exterior trim/seat/body-related quality issues by responding to requests from Hyundai Motor Group, sales affiliates, vehicle assembly plants, and in cases of sudden increases in warranty claims.
- Utilize subjective and objective data from field and on-site investigations to analyze and diagnose root causes of trim-related quality issues.
- Propose and validate solutions pertaining to trim-related quality issues.
- Benchmark competitive vehicle designs, diagnostic procedures, and technical service bulletins (TSBs) to research differences and enhance NAQC's systems and materials.
- Identify market trends via customer feedback, external indices (e.g., J.D. Power, Consumer Reports), customer forums, and automotive syndicated studies.
- Research, procure, and maintain new technologies, tools, and methods for data acquisition and analysis purposes.
- Manage schedules and coordinate with outsourced companies to ensure all deliverables are met according to contract requirements.
- Maintain project schedules by assisting vendors with any arising questions and/or issues.
- Travel up to 30% of the time, both domestically and internationally.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, automotive, or a related field of engineering.
- 3-7 years of experience working with trim systems.
- QA/QC/QI experience.
- Knowledge of interior and exterior trim/seat/ and body-related fundamentals (e.g., NVH, lamp, switch, seat, latch, motor, and door).
- Familiarity with vehicle instrumentation and data acquisition tools (e.g., LMS, thermal loggers, CAN tools, various gauges, etc.), service manuals, shop equipment, and trim-related test equipment.
- Root cause analysis skills.
- Experience conducting field and on-site investigations.
- Familiarity with performing testing, validation, research, and benchmarking activities/tasks concerning trim systems.
- Excellent time management, self-management, and organization skills.
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Valid Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
- Master’s degree in mechanical, electrical, automotive, or a related field of engineering.
- Knowledge of chassis fundamentals (e.g., NVH, brake systems, fuel systems, HVAC systems, steering systems, and suspension systems).
