Seat Design Engineer

Location:

Irvine, CA

Compensation: $ - $ per year

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and execute design releases in the 3DExperience PLM system using CATIA V5/V6, including 3‑D models and 2‑D drawings.
  • Design seat and seat components such as cushion frame, back frame, headrest, seat plastic, recliners, and track.
  • Lead design FMEA studies, apply GD&T, and maintain change documentation.
  • Perform complete seat packaging studies and vehicle integration, covering master sections, packaging, concept creation, and assembly processes of seat parts.
  • Maintain and develop Design Validation Plans (DVP) and Design Failure Mode Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Collaborate with OEM/Tier‑I engineers and suppliers to optimize cost, mass, joining methods, molding, and test performance.
  • Interpret CAE simulation results and translate recommendations into product improvements.
  • Define seating comfort targets and conduct feasibility studies, including craftsman ship target analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and certification requirements for seating systems.
  • Support prototype and production build milestones, meeting all deliverables and timelines.
  • Communicate effectively with offshore teams.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in automotive seating system and subsystem design and development.
  • Strong proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 and experience with 3DExperience PLM.
  • Experience designing seat components such as cushion frame, back frame, headrest, seat plastic, recliners, and track.
  • Understanding of tooling and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of vehicle integration, packaging, concept creation, and assembly processes of seat parts.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and certification requirements for seating systems.
  • Ability to develop DVPs and DFMEA.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and capability to lead offshore teams.
  • Skill in defining seating comfort and comfort targets.
