Summary

The Project Engineering Manager leads multiple projects and oversees all engineering efforts within the EPC team, including development, management, and growth of project engineers. This role reports to the Director of Project Engineering or designated senior management, operates in San Francisco on a hybrid schedule (Monday‑Friday, 8 am‑5 pm or 9 am‑6 pm), and may travel at least 30% of the time.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
  • Lead all stages of multiple projects and project engineering, including conceptual and advanced system design, regulatory compliance, customer requirements, balance‑of‑system design, site visits, permitting, and technical support during construction.
  • Provide extensive technical experience on photovoltaic and energy storage projects.
  • Supervise technical planning for contract preparation.
  • Report on planning and technical design to the engineering group and to clients.
  • Prepare technical documentation for the quoting process.
  • Develop planning abilities and processes within the team.
  • Collaborate to develop and improve system standards.
  • Assist with technical training for team members and new project engineers.
  • Build a culture of continuous improvement and safety that embraces responsibility and leading by example.
  • Establish metrics to characterise project engineering status throughout the project life cycle.
  • Attend regularly in accordance with company policy.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related engineering science with cross‑disciplinary knowledge (electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, BESS).
  • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience in solar and/or energy storage projects, including HV substation equipment.
  • Minimum 10 years of on‑site experience (non‑installation) with associated solar activities.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct management experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Relevant experience in design and development.
  • Willingness to travel at least 30% of the time.
  • Experience with AutoCAD (or equivalent).
  • Experience with photovoltaic performance modeling tools (preferably PVSyst).
  • Knowledge of PV plant design and optimization.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code.
  • Previous experience managing projects from initial design to installation and execution.
  • Ability to motivate and develop others.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Work Environment
  • Regular professional office setting.
  • Noise level ranges from low to moderate (office) and moderate to high (construction).
  • Role may transition to an onsite or hybrid arrangement per business needs and departmental head.
